The Tote Bag Workshop: Introduction to Textile Design and Printing 4/17/25

Learn the basics of textile design as you create your own repeating pattern and print it on a premium organic cotton tote bag. Together we will construct a repeating pattern made of hand-drawn elements before turning it into a block print. We will practice printing on paper and fabric, exploring different layouts and colors, then we will print on our tote bags.

No prior experience with printmaking is necessary.

Skills include: pattern design, block carving, printmaking on fabric. Each student will go home with their one of a kind tote bag, reusable printing block, paper and fabric prints, and notebook. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

About the teacher, Isabelle Grizzard Robertson

Isabelle has been designing and printing textiles for twenty years, since her first commission recreating a delicate scrap of toile found at a flea market in Paris. In addition to designing for Piano Nobile, Isabelle has also been a featured designer at CB2, West Elm, and Starbucks. She taught in the design department at Cornish College of the Arts from 2015-2020, and helped to create an accredited new degree pathway in Interior Architecture. In 2024, she and her partner Nickolas Robertson opened a brand new studio in a beautiful old school, where they are pleased to offer workshops and art events.
